What is therapy / counselling?

Counselling is a dynamic experience which allows clients to explore, manage and heal from life’s challenges in a safe and secure therapeutic relationship.

Is therapy right for me?

This is something that can be explored in your first session. We will discuss how we can work together; how long therapy might last; what is bringing you to counselling at this particular time, and any concerns about confidentiality or anything else that might be concerning you. Therapy isn’t just for the big events in life, sometimes it is beneficial to have someone from outside your day-to-day world, who is only focused on your needs to discuss any changes or challenges you might be experiencing.

How long will I have counselling for?

This depends on you and what your needs are – I am experienced with working with people in short term work, that is weekly for 6-8 weeks, and also with people who need to take longer to explore some difficult past or current situations in more depth. We will discuss this in your first appointment and review regularly as we proceed together.

How long do sessions last?

Generally, sessions occur weekly at the same time, and last 50 minutes. Sometimes life can present more difficulties with this regularity and this can be discussed at the first session. As counselling comes to an end you may wish to reduce sessions to fortnightly.

What happens if I miss an appointment?

Sometimes you may need to move an appointment, occasionally you may be ill, and there will be planned absences – all of these can be accommodated. If there is a cancellation at short notice (less than 24 hours) you will be liable for the full session fee.

How much does counselling cost?

The fee for each session is £50.00 and can be paid by bank transfer or cash on the day.

Can I have online counselling?

I am trained to work online with clients and will do so on request. My preference is to work in person and would always encourage clients in this regard, but the offer of online counselling can be discussed at the initial assessment appointment.
